BT20/Community Services

Blantyre 20’s community services, have traditionally been to help organizations that assist those less fortunate in our community, BT 20’s aim in its community service activities is to see that all the help they provide assists not one individual but a whole community.

 

Below are some of BT 20’s community services in 2005

 

Physiotherapy Unit

 

Built by the early Blantyre 20 pioneers, the physiotherapy unit at the Queen Elizabeth Central hospital in Blantyre was named in honour of the founder of Round Table and is called “Louis Marchesi Physiotherapy Unit”.

 

They attend to a variety of disabling conditions and receive referrals from health centers, district hospitals, private hospitals and the out patient department at Q.E.C.H

 

Blantyre 20 continues to support them with building maintenance and equipment repairs and in the last year provided support amounting to +/- K292,000.00

 

C.U.R.E Hospital

Blantyre 20 is assisting the children that have unfortunately had to undergo lower leg amputations or need leg length corrections with the purchase of shoes that can be used to overcome leg length discrepancies. 

 

Mpemba Boys Home

 

Blantyre 20’s Tabler’s have come together at the end of each year for the last 45 years to provide food, gifts and a fun day for the children of Mpemba boys reformatory. We serve them in the true spirit of Round Table and a day of good fellowship is held with those less fortunate in our community.

 

Humana People to People / DAPP

 

Blantyre 20 recently responded to a request from DAPP for help at their new Teacher Training College in Blantyre.

Blantyre 20 provided Blankets and Mosquito nets for all their new trainee teachers.

 

Chikondi Orphanage

 

Blantyre 20 recently responded to a request from the Chikondi orphanage for some foodstuff to enable them hold a Christmas party for the orphans they look after. Blantyre 20 with the help of an anonymous sponsor provided food and drink to them in December 2005
